Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi
In the beginning the “UTKAL NRUTYA SANGEETA NATYA KALA PARISHAD” was established by the Deptt. of Education, Odisha vide Resolution No. 1894-E dt. 16th March 1954 in order to foster and develope Dance, Drama & Music in the State of Odisha. Then Govt. of Odisha considered to make certain amendments in the constitution of the Utkal Nrutya Sangeet Natya Kala Parishad and subsequently the said Institution was re-named as “ODISHA SANGEET NATAK AKADEMI” vide resolution No. 10491, V.I.E./AD-11/57-E dt. 10th Sept.1957. The Hon’ble Governor of Odisha Sri P.S. Kumar Swamy was the first President of the Akademi and Hon’ble Justice Sri Lingaraj Panigrahi was the working President of the Akademi. Sri B.B. Mishra, A.I.G of Police of Odisha was the first Secretary of the Akademi. As regards an humble introduction of Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi (OSNA)- is an aided Institution under the management of Deptt. of Odia Language, Literature & Culture, Govt. of Odisha. It is Registered under the Societies Registration Act 1860 bearing No. 6086/42 of 1971-72. The said Institution was established in the year 1954. The Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi has been functioning in the ground floor of the Sanskruti Bhawan since 1996-97. The following are the authorities of the Akademi namely :

4. Any other standing Committee or Sub-committee which the General Council or the Executive Body may set up for discharging any one or more of their functions.

With the tune of music the movement of body in a rhythmic way expressing a meaningful emotion or idea by skillful performers. It is unique in its style based on different forms like Classical, traditional/Folk ect.
Classical : Odissi, Kathak, Bharat Natyam, Kathakali, Kuchipudi, Manipuri, Mohiniattam.
A dance that originates as a ritual characteristic of the common people of a particulars area and that is transmitted from generation to generation with increasing secularization is a Folk Dance.
It is a composition prose to tell a story involving conflicts & emotions though action and dialogue with in a given space.
Music in the arrangement of human voice and instrumental sound create some combination of form, harmony, melody, rhythm. It is characterized as a highly versatile medium for expressing human creativity through composition improvisation and performance.
Vocal Music : It is a singing process by one or more singers accompanies Instrument or without it. Where singing main focus.
Like Folk Dance this Tribal Dance practiced by Tribal people. They very from region to region reporting the unique traditions & culture of the trible.
From 2021, the Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi is giving the first Kavichandra Kalicharan Yuva Pratibha Samman for the development of music, dance, drama and folk art and to inspire and encourage the young generation of artists. In this context, five artists in the fields of music, dance, drama and folk art are being honored with an organza, a copper plaque and a financial award for their outstanding contribution to the respective field.
The Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi has been awarding the Akademi Awards since 1970-71 under the auspices of the Department of Odia Language, Literature and Culture, Odisha. The Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi has been actively working for the development of Odia music, drama and dance for 64 years since 1954. One of the goals of this institution is to bring to the public attention the creative artists who have preserved the traditional arts in the urban and rural areas of Odisha in the fields of drama, music and dance and to help them grow in their old age. The state-level honors are given by the Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi to recognize and promote the remarkable artists and artists whose tears and sweat have shocked the whole world today. While this award ceremony has become a tradition since 1970-71, since 1991, the Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi has been presenting its highest award in the name of the legendary poet Upendra Bhanja of the world of Odia literature and music. The Kavi Samrat Upendra Bhanja Award is given to an accomplished artist for his lifelong dedication. The Akademi has also honored the outstanding contribution of the artist in the fields of acting, dramaturgy, direction, stage arts, folk music, folk music, folk dance, folk drama, instrumental music (anadh music), instrumental music (sushira and stringed instruments), Odissi dance, Odissi vocal music, Hindustani vocal music and soft music through angavat, tamraphalak and financial awards. The Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi has unanimously approved the award of Akademi Awards for some of the newly established art fields in its general council meeting held on 23.05.2023. . While selecting an artist, the skill, ability, continuous effort and contribution of an artist will be given importance and taken into consideration. For the Akademi Award, the names of at least 7 participating artists in each category must be recommended. Otherwise, that category will not be accepted for the award.
